Working meeting powered by Thessaloniki Convention Bureau

In a joint working meeting powered by Thessaloniki Convention Bureau together with the Region of Central Macedonia and Fraport Greece, all three partners announced their planning and their cooperation for 2022.

Fraport Greece, announced airlines’ plans to launch at least 16 new flights to Thessaloniki in 2022. Fraport Greece Executive Director of Commercial and Business Development George Vilos announced the news, adding that crucial to the expansion has been the company’s plan to launch a two-year incentive program to help airlines introduce new, international routes during the winter season by offering a 50 percent discount on airport charges or about 7 euros per passenger.

Vilos also reported that recovery at Thessaloniki airport, hovered at around 50 percent of 2019 levels, which was 10 points higher compared to similar-sized airports in Europe. For the first two months of 2022, the recovery rate is around 58 percent, he said.

The Deputy Governor for Tourism in the Region of Central Macedonia Alexandros Thanos stressed the importance of cooperation with Fraport Greece and Enterprise Greece and announced back to in person participation in all major tourism fairs and exhibitions for 2022. The Region of Central Macedonia also presented a preview for the new portal that is going to be live before summer 2022, and was very well received by the audience.

Eleni Sotiriou, Managing director of Thessaloniki Convention Bureau presented the TCB initiatives for 2022, pointing out the importance of being proactive as a destination, in order to meet the competition in these challenging times.

Thessaloniki Convention Bureau will be ready on 8 – 10 May, 2022 to welcome suppliers and international event planners.  Prescheduled B2B meetings, networking opportunities through a carefully designed social programme and destination presentations will provide to hosted buyers and local suppliers a full and interesting two days set up for productive business.

The event in Thessaloniki will be followed by a second part, in Tel Aviv, In December 2022, focused exclusively on the Israeli market.

The Region of Central Macedonia supports both initiatives.
